Responsibilities

  • Interact closely with multi-disciplinary teams including materials, chemistry, quality, reliability, manufacturing, and product development engineers to support failure resolution, new technology applications, and product development efforts.

  • Performs and participates in failure analysis investigations and implementation of corrective actions

  • Apply materials knowledge on the development of lab test methods to facilitate creation of specifications and engineering part requirements.

  • Supports the supplier quality department to qualify new vendors and approval of new parts via PPAP methodology.

  • Monitor and improve grey iron casting quality of critical components from local foundries.

  • Supports development of heat treatment process instructions at external heat treatment facilities.

  • Lead and conduct metallurgical evaluations and materials testing efforts using engineering tools, lab instrumentation and write technical reports to communicate results.

  • Responsible for further laboratory expansion based on need and conducting supervision of laboratory technician

  • Train, coach, and guide technician and colleagues on routine procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or Materials Engineering

  • Strong background in metallurgical/materials engineering. Basic understanding of the operation of typical metallurgical laboratory equipment and processes; hands on experience is ideal.

  • At least 7 years experiences in a technically similar position.

  • Good leadership skills and ability to influence change. Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels

  • Must be able to work in a team environment, including inter-departmental teams and key contact representing the organization on projects

  • Must have grey cast iron foundry experience. Must understand the cause of foundry defects and their associated corrective measures. Familiarity with good casting design practices such as proper gating and risering systems needed.

  • Must have knowledge of microstructure vs. property relationships for cast iron and other ferrous and nonferrous metals/alloys.

  • Knowledgeable on surface modification technologies (coatings, surface treatments, etc.) and tribology of moving components (friction and wear reductions, controls, etc.).

  • Bi-Lingual language skills in Mandarin Chinese and English and the ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Must be proficient in utilization of Microsoft Office programs
