At a tactical level, this position implements the policies, tools and processes to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the HR department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Employee Relations Specialist implements employee relations programs and advises managers on the application of employment legislation and the resolution of employee relations issues to maintain employee engagement and resolve issues in a timely manner.

  • Uniquely positioned to help shape our employee experiences, the ER Specialist provides support and guidance on the proper understanding, interpretation and application of HR related policies and procedures.

  • Serving as a primary point of contact for HR related functions, they will be expected to act on requests from the various business units for issues including but not limited to employee relations, training, record keeping, paid time off requests, and staffing needs such as position management, talent acquisition and on-boarding.

  • They will be responsible for administering payroll for the designated site. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining employee records and inputting data into systems for accurate onboarding and efficient payroll delivery.

  • Conducts investigations into employee relations issues that have been escalated.

  • Contributes to negotiations with employee groups (e.g. unions).

  • Completes administrative tasks (e.g. documentation for investigations), and supports other HR projects (e.g. deliver harassment training).

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (or equivalent) in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations, or related field will be required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Human Resources will be required

  • HR certification (e.g. CHRP, SHRP, PHR, SPHR, CPA, PCP) will be preferred

  • Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g. ADP, Workday, Ceridian) and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) will be preferred

  • Strong ability to multitask and remain calm in emergencies

  • Superb conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to display integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times

  • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations
