Otter Co-Op Food Store Associate - PT (Cloverdale / Surrey) in Surrey, British Columbia

Otter Co-op is now accepting applications for a Part-Time Food Store Associate at our Brickyard Station Food Store located in Surrey, BC.

Our Brickyard Station Food Store, located in Cloverdale, is an exciting addition to our other locations and we are anticipating opening this location in Spring 2024. The successful candidate for this position will be starting in advance of opening and will be responsible for recruiting and building the team and preparing for our grand opening.

What you’ll do:

The specific responsibilities of the Food Store Associate include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure guests are handled with the utmost courtesy and that all guest inquiries are dealt with in a prompt and service orientated manner.

  • Provide excellent service to guests in a courteous, efficient manner by asking their needs and help them in making purchases.

  • Maintain high standards of work and safety.

  • Stock, rotate and display fresh produce and merchandise in a neat and appealing manner – including watering, trimming, and merchandising to ensure quality and freshness.

  • Keep shelves fully stocked with fresh products.

  • Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of the Produce Value Added program.

  • Prepare/package product for sale.

  • Loading and unloading of product from delivery trucks.

  • Stock product to shelves and cases, avoiding damage.

  • Discard expired items on special promotions.

  • Assist with receiving, ordering and make claims or credits, as needed.

  • Assist in organizing and directing the activities and operations of the department.

  • Escort guests to their appropriate aisle or shelf in order to assist with purchasing decisions.

  • Ensure the store is clean, safe and maintained by cleaning racks, table, back room, coolers and freezers and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Prepare store displays and ensure products are accurately labelled.

  • Process guest orders and payments.

  • Discard expired items and place near expiry items on special promotions.

  • Contribute to the Team in living the Corporate Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence.

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Retail Store Operations and:

  • Previous guest service experience in a retail setting is an asset but not required.

  • Experience as a grocery clerk or retail experience is an asset but not required.

  • Previous Produce experience is an asset but not required.

  • Previous Meat experience is an asset but not required.

  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work efficiently in a team setting as well as independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be available 7 days a week to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

  • This is a physical job requiring the ability to stand for long periods of time and lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. on occasion.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Must have basic math and basic computer skills.

  • Must be committed to a SAFE working environment.

  • This position is based at the Brickyard Station Food Store, though it may require on some occasions to travel and work at other locations as business needs arise.
