To assist in the engineering development effort for this team, Amazon is looking to hire a Display PQ Architect, to work on PQ features, PQ kernel driver development, and advanced technologies such as using NN accelerators to add AI for PQ enhancements. The PQ System Architect will work with PQ/VQ display engineers, multimedia teams, SoC provider, software and hardware platform teams, QA test teams, and product management teams from the idea development phase all the way to implementation and system tuning. The PQ System Architect will make sure all involved internal and external teams maintain Amazon PQ/VQ high bar that is expected from all products.

Key job responsibilities

The potential candidate will analyze the system SW/HW architecture and map the PM requested features to the capabilities of the system, taking into consideration performance, portability, maintainability, and testability. The candidate will cooperate with other architects and write kernel modules to interact between the TV UI and the SoC PQ functions. The candidate will develop test plans for the different teams responsible for system stability and system performance. The candidate will also participate in senior-level meetings to provide scope of work assessment and provide design alternative and mitigation plans to meet the fast-paced product development cycle.

A day in the life

This PQ Architect, will work with the Display Engineers, the SOC provider, PM and other teams within Amazon, on the definition, architecture, and use of development tools to add functionality to our TV and display devices. These features and functions will help to ensure Amazon TVs are the best in class when it comes to PQ and VQ.

The candidate will also work with the FTV team, software developers - both internal, and 3P partners, and software QA groups to ensure that ODMs and Amazon engineers receive the appropriate knowledge and training to meet the high bar for PQ/VQ at Amazon.

About the PQ/VQ/AQ team: We are a small but influential team of Video and TV engineers who support the TV and Display device programs at Lab 126. We work hard to improve the Image and Video quality of our devices, advise the product definitions, the development, the test, validation, and advanced PQ/VQ/AQ features of our TV products. Basic Qualifications

  • A degree in EE, CS, and related field with solid understanding of TV technology

  • 6+ years of coding experience (with at least 3 in kernel domain)

  • Excellent design documentation skills

  • Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB (Java/Python is a plus)

  • Experience with video codecs and compression formats

  • Understanding of heterogeneous SoC architecture, especially video and graphic pipeline

  • Full understanding of PQ/VQ concepts such as image signal processing, color processing, HDR, Display etc.

  • Familiarity with display technologies (LCD, OLED, Quantum Dot, Local Dimming, mini LED, etc.)

  • Familiarity with PQ validation tools with optical equipment

  • Familiarity with TV manufacturing and mass production

  • Experience in UI design concepts (UI description language, menu item rendering, and binding to system APIs)

Preferred Qualifications

  • A masters degree in EE, CS, and related field with a solid history in writing software utilities for TV devices, and Internal TV systems

  • 4 years of experience in hands-on software development and testing of TVs, especially in feature development ensuring the quality of the display

  • A history of results in TV architecture, design, development, and test automation

  • Color Science background a strong plus

  • Artificial Intelligence experience a strong plus

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
