Microsoft’s Cloud business is expanding, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth including AI! CSCP’s vision is to empower customers to achieve more by delivering Cloud Capacity Differentiated at Scale. The CSCP Organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), decommissioning and disposition of Data center assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters supporting services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries worldwide.

Microsoft’s Cloud business is ushering in the AI era, and the Capacity, Supply Chain & Provisioning (CSCP) organization is responsible for delivering the products underlying this growth. The AI NPI Strategic Sourcing Manager role has 3 key focus areas:

• Supplier business strategy and product management

• Lifecycle, security, sustainability, cost, and availability management

• Supplier performance and compliance

And to provide thought leadership and drive strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support cloud supply chain overall objectives and strategies.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supply chain professionals dedicated to AI networking new product introductions.

  • Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging teamwork and high performance.

Strategic Sourcing Management

  • Early engage with cross functional leadership including product design, quality, business teams to determine sourcing requirements for Network and Optics suppliers.

  • Foster the partnership with engineering & business partners to identify/influence design and technology selection.

  • Develop sourcing strategies to ensure competitive cost advantage and sufficient continuity of supply.

  • Define RFQ / RFP (request for quotation /request for proposal) activities and direct structural sourcing team to conduct negotiations with suppliers.

  • Manage contracting activities with Legal and ensure contract reflect Microsoft's cross functional engagements with suppliers.

  • Serve as the escalation point for component supply and/or supplier issues.

Total Cost of Ownership and Quality Management

  • Identify total cost ownership reduction opportunities and drive supplier for cost competitiveness.

  • Understand the key metrics for Microsoft (Pace, power, and price) and negotiate with supplier to exceed expectation.

  • Identify and manage de-risking deployment challenges.

Security, Supply Chain Resiliency, and Supplier Management

  • Develop and enable new suppliers.

  • Analyze financial health of supplier ecosystem and leverage game theory to support partnership recommendations.

  • MSFT’s central point of contact of supplier relationship in assigned categories.

  • Ensure supplier is committed to security, sustainability, and social responsibility.

  • Conduct business review discussions with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure supplier deliver corrective actions on time from business review / audits.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and synthesizing skills of both written and verbal.

  • Ability to influence and ability to build lasting relationships across multiple layers in the organization.

  • Demonstrated track record in supplier negotiation and management.

Sourcing Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
