The Department of Transportation is seeking Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainees in Northumberland County! DESCRIPTION OF WORK Under the guidance of supervisors, managers, and other staff, you will participates in a structured, progressive, on-the-job training program to learn and employ the full range of analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair duties for construction equipment, trucks, and automobiles, powered by gasoline or diesel engines.  You will identify and complete appropriate visual observations and manual adjustments, and complete reports of findings in both written and oral format.  You will also implement appropriate environmental protection requirements in all maintenance work activities and be responsible for your safety, safety of co-workers and the public.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, with 30-minute lunch. This position may require travel, overtime and dual shifts. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years as a Tradesman Helper (commonwealth title) working in the automotive field; or

Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment. This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. All positions will require employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period. This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
