The Center for Enterprise Modernization (CGEM) Treasury, Economics, and Commerce (TEC) Division is a rapidly growing organization, focused on increasing engagements with federal public agencies to support our sponsors’ missions of building a strong, resilient economy. We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic individuals with diverse skillsets who are interested in contributing to the exponential and exciting growth of our work within the Commerce Department.

MITRE is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a growing and diverse portfolio of sponsors within MITRE’s Treasury, Economics, and Commerce Division. This position will primarily support MITRE’s engagements with the U.S. Census Bureau and requires a blend of technical, business process, and operational design experience.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Systems Engineer you will be a member of an interdisciplinary team and may participate in some of the following opportunities:

  • Provide research in high technical areas to include cloud computing, information security, document scanning, optical character recognition (OCR), optical mark recognition (OMR), and image and data storage and retrieval

  • Coordinate the preparation of materials in support of Authority to Operate (ATO) and Continuous Monitoring Evidence

  • Analyze identified security risks and coordinate the development of plan of action and milestone (POA&M) responses

  • Review and provide recommendations on improving system documentation

  • Provide technical services advice and guidance

  • Assist in system migration planning and transition activities

  • Coordinate IT infrastructure, system, and documentation configuration management activities

  • Provide recommendations on change management process and details

  • Use qualitative and quantitative research methods to collect and analyze data to find trends, themes, and similarities.

  • Develop presentations that translate and communicate assessment findings to inform impactful decisions.

  • Contribute to the development of products, such as concept of operations, analysis of alternatives, and acquisition packages.

  • Research leading practices, methodologies, tools, and techniques.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ experience with the federal IT systems and security posture and regulations

  • Expert at IT infrastructure and application development

  • In-depth knowledge of IT administration and information security

  • Applicants for this role will be subjected go through and receive a US Government Security Clearance

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Troubleshooting and analytical skills

  • Good communication and collaboration skills

  • Experience translating technical concepts to leadership

  • Experience working with government sponsors

  • Experience interacting with senior government officials

  • Understanding of principles of paper data capture operations
