Summary:

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at WMC Health is seeking a second board certified Cardiac Surgeon for our satellite program at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. This hospital is located approximately half an hour from Manhattan and 25 minutes from Westchester Medical Center, which serves as the quaternary hospital for the WMC Health Network. The program at Good Samaritan, a regional 286bed medical center, has been in existence for 17 years, and sees a wide variety of adult cardiac surgical procedures, and is supported by a large group of cardiologists within the network. There are 2 dedicated modern cardiac surgical operating rooms and a 5 bed CTICU. A group of experienced PAs, provide 24/7 coverage in the OR, office and in the post -op units. The medical office is physically attached to the hospital in its medical office building, making it easy to care for patients in an in or outpatient setting. A successful TAVR program, in conjunction with interventional cardiology, was started in 2020 and Mitraclip procedures are expected to begin soon. There is opportunity to participate in research trials in cardiovascular surgery that are beginning this year.

Qualifications / Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess excellent surgical and interpersonal skills and be able to collaborate with both employed network and outside physicians and cardiologists. Any special interest or skills such as TAVR and ECMO experience will be welcomed. Non cardiac thoracic surgery is not performed on the service but there is an opportunity to do so if desired. Optimally, we seek an individual with at least 3 to 5 years’ experience, and documented quality outcomes. Candidate must be board certified or board eligible in New York.Alternatively, an outstanding candidate of a high-quality program will be considered. Such a candidate will be mentored by the remaining senior cardiac surgeon who has extensive experience in the training of young cardiac surgeons.

This is an employed position, with generous salary and benefits offered through WMC. Faculty appointment at New York Medical College School of Medicine, Dept of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and active teaching of rotating third and 4th year medical students is expected. The surgeons at Good Samaritan participate in all educational programs at WMC, well recognized for their expertise in highly complex procedures, and widely known for their work in aortic surgery, LVAD, and transplantation.
