State of Massachusetts Identification Technician I in Sudbury, Massachusetts

Identification Technician I is an entry-level position. Incumbents of the Identification Technician I position undergo on the-job training to develop the competencies necessary to classify and identify fingerprints independently as required of Identification Technicians II. In addition to receiving on-the-job training, incumbents perform clerical and technical job duties that include: * Opening records and distributing mail. * Answering unit telephones and interacting with the public as well as other criminal justice agency personnel. * Operating a workstation on the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). * Reviewing records and reports for accuracy, specifically for accurate demographic data. * Inputting tenprint data into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). * Preparing fingerprint cards for insertion into the fingerprint reader. * Matching computer-generated State Identification numbers (SID) to fingerprint cards and filing cards as appropriate. * Maintaining various types of logs relating to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). * Performing related office duties as required. Identification Technician I is a (rotating) Emergency position. Consequently, incumbents must periodically report to work under emergency conditions such as during states of emergency declared by the Governor of the Commonwealth or by the federal government. Identification Technicians I undergo a training period of roughly 12 months to develop the knowledge and skills needed to qualify for advancement to Identification Technician II. Identification Technicians I are assigned to the Day Shift (7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) or Evening Shift (3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.) during the training period. Thereafter, fully trained Technicians who have advanced to Identification Technician II must participate in a shift bidding process which may result in assignment to the Day, Evening or Midnight (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.) shift. The final candidates for this position will undergo extensive pre-employment screening which includes a background investigation and drug test.
