Paramount Director/IBEW Technician in Studio City, California

KCBS2/KCAL9 has an opening for the combined position of Director/Technical Director. This single-operating position is responsible for the editorial and technical execution of all KCBS/KCAL live and recorded produced programming and is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreements of the DGA and IBEW and will be a hyphenated position.

Job Function:

  • The main responsibilities of this combined position are to provide daily on-air production direction and physical execution of KCBS/KCAL programming as assigned.

  • In collaboration with the KCBS/KCAL editorial staff, the operator will prepare the broadcast through automation protocols (coding) and the technical infrastructure (ELC testing, mic checks, and camera targeting) daily.

  • Once a show is prepared, the operator will assume the single operator position in the control room and be responsible for the editorial and technical execution of the program.

  • This role will assume supervisory responsibilities, including supervising other crew positions, including but not limited to News TOC, teleprompting, and staging.

  • Candidate must be willing to work a very flexible work schedule that may include early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays. This is NOT negotiable.

  • Vacations, holidays, and personal time are per the combined CBAs as determined at the time of hire.

Required:

  • Previous Sony ELC experience is required

  • Ability to run in automated or manual configuration

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude & leadership qualities with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities a must.

  • Excellent people and communication skills

  • Good conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of video and audio servers, graphics systems, audio consoles and robotic cameras is essential

  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of iNews preferred

  • Demonstrated experience as a newscast director is preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $77.12/hr - $96.25/hr

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
