The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Research Support Specialist in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Developmental Biology, Physiology or a related field. Experience with related research activities. Experience in operating laboratory equipment, carrying out test procedures and using special methods for data collection and interpretation.


Preferred Qualifications:

Research experience in microCT, histology, molecular biology techniques to include at least one (1) year of musculoskeletal research experience at the undergraduate level. Tissue culture experience with primary musculoskeletal cells and established cell lines. History of small animal handling and surgical assistance. Two (2) years of related research experience. Published research findings. Grant experience.


Brief Description of Duties:

Under the direction of the Research Scientist, the Research Support Specialist will conduct, analyze, interpret and communicate research. They will possess strong communication skills, including demonstrated ability to explain technical details, present results orally, analyze data, manage undergraduate students, and perform general laboratory management. The successful incumbent will be familiar with biomedical journals, and able to do literature searches.

  • Conduct research experiments designed to evaluate the effects of differential loading on bone formation and resorption in vitro and in vivo.

  • Data collection, study documentation, utilization of specialized skills in related fields (i.e., statistical analysis and image analysis) to analyze and interpret collected data.

  • General laboratory management (i.e., supply ordering, equipment maintenance) and supervision of undergraduate students.

  • Literature searching and assistance with drafting manuscripts, presentations, and grants.

  • Assist with orthopaedic resident training and research, as well as attending local and national scientific conferences.

  • Other duties as assigned.
