The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Postdoctoral Associate in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biological Science or a closely related field in hand by January 2025.

  • Hands-on experience in performing animal experimentations, such as intranasal inoculation, gavage, and intraperitoneal and intravenous injections.
  • Familiarity with organ excision for Tissue Burden studies.
  • Experience in performing microbial and human cell culture.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past experience in testing antifungals.
  • High level of familiarity with animal studies.
  • High level of familiarity with microbial and human cell cultures.
  • Moderate level of familiarity with metabolite or/and lipid research (e.g. phospholipids, sphingolipids and fatty acids).
  • Minimal level of familiarity with protein-protein interaction, effect of lipids on membrane proteins.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator, Dr. Maurizio Del Poeta, in the department of Microbiology and Immunology.
The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

  • Performing animal experiments to determine the efficacy of antifungal drugs on mice survival and tissue burden culture (organ infectivity) upon fungal infections (e.g. cryptococcosis, candidiasis and aspergillosis). Microbial and human cell culture analysis.
  • Analyze, interpret the results of the analysis, solve potential problems and pitfalls, and discuss the data with the principal investigators.
  • Contribute to write reports and manuscripts on the results obtained.
  • Present the results in a logical way during research meetings or presentations and be able to provide ideas and set up next experimentations/questions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
