The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Postdoctoral Associate in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biology, Medicine or closely related field.

Preferred Qualification:
Research experience with hematopoietic stem cell biology, vascular biology, and immunology.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Zhan Lab focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The MPNs are clonal stem cell disorders characterized by hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell (HSPC) expansion, overproduction of mature blood cells, and increased risk of cardiovascular complications. Using molecular and genetic techniques in transgenic murine models, MPN patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell lines, and primary patient samples, we study the hematopoietic microenvironment niche, clonal competition, and vascular pathology in the pathogenesis of MPNs. The ultimate goal of our research is to develop more effective therapies for patients with MPNs and other clonal hematologic malignancies.

The Postdoctoral Associate is dedicated to support basic science and pre-clinical research. The Postdoctoral Associate must possess a strong work ethic, creativity and enthusiasm, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills.

Duties:

  • Plan experiments and technical requirements, prepare and test specimens.
  • Analyze data and present the results at various scientific meetings, prepare the manuscripts and grants.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment/supplies/facilities. Execute the administrative aspects of the study plan including preparing research-related documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
