Key job responsibilities

You will be responsible for development of the core functionality of the Sye low-latency streaming solution; streaming server, client and protocol. This entails adding capabilities according to requirements and KPIs defined by the Sye team or external teams, improving efficiency, continuously measuring quality and deliver on time with the right scope. The requirements are often ambiguous which requires designs with the right tradeoffs. New designs require written proposal containing well thought of options covering all angels and to be reviewed and aligned with internal and sometimes external stakeholders. Within Amazon you run what you build. troubleshooting, resolving bugs critical for production and being part of operations during events are expected by all developers.

A day in the life

As part of the Sye team you will be involved with daily stand-ups, code reviews from team members, internal and cross team meetings to align on technical complexities, estimate deliveries with milestones and write technical documents. Tier-1 events involve planning of new features to be deployed, tests to be performed and data to be analyzed in order to continuously improve the customer experience. Status and goals tracking are expected every so often.

About the team

We are the Prime Video Sye team and we re-invented live streaming, making sports a sharable experience without spoilers from push-notifications, loud neighbors of friend through social media. Since joining Prime Video, we successfully lunched Sye on NFL’s Thursday Night Football, English Premier League and UEFA Champions League to mention a few. We have expanded in device platforms and onboarded more Content Delivery Networks, carrying traffic using the Sye software. We are expanding and are looking for engineers joining our team in Stockholm, Sweden. We live and breath low latency streaming and are passionate with providing our customers with the best possible live user experience.

We are looking for smart, motivated Software Development Engineers who are fluent in C++ and can help in continued buildout of our streaming platform and to improve the customer experience even further. If you have experience building large-scale, high-performance, customer-friendly products and are interested in designing and implementing distributed systems to handle large datasets, complex domains, and problems at Amazon scale, this is the job for you. This is an exciting role, offering a customer-obsessed engineer an opportunity to learn and use a broad array of technologies to make a real impact. Our architecture leverages the latest in AWS cloud technologies including EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and Cloudfront in supporting billions of requests from millions of Prime Video users.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Non-internship professional software development experience

  • Programming experience in C+Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Proficient in TypeScript and JavaScript

  • Experience in Rust

  • Experience of Docker

  • Experience of cloud technologies, such as AWS and/or

  • OS fundamentals and systems architecture

  • Algorithms, data-structures, efficiency, concurrency, performance optimization

  • Experience in working in an agile environment with continuous integration and testing

  • Strong adherence to unit/system testing

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills

  • Proficient in written and spoken English to at least C1 level or equivalent
