General Dynamics Information Technology Senior Windows Systems Engineer (Active Secret Clearance or higher) in Sterling, Virginia

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leads, develops and mentors junior technical team members

  • Assigns tasks to team members based upon available skills/load in order to ensure scheduled deadlines are achieved

  • Interviews/selects personnel to fill vacancies and/or augment services as the program grows to scale

  • Actively and fully engage in the implementation of a DevSecOps system framework

  • Designs, develops, and deploys Windows servers hosted in virtualized environments (test and production)

  • Owns the design/configuration of Windows 10 desktop/laptop image. Consults with vendors to evaluate new firmware/hardware/software offerings

  • Assesses systems performance, explores opportunities for improvement and presents recommendations to program leadership

  • Designs program strategy for DR/COOP and updates as requirements/technology evolve

  • Develops technical architecture documentation that details procedures for installation, maintenance, security, configuration, and disaster recovery.

  • Defines performance metrics and implements a plan to monitor infrastructure to ensure services are being delivered as per service level agreements (SLAs) SEC

  • Creates risk mitigation strategies when vulnerabilities cannot be remedied and works with IT security to review and act on any directed changes

  • Supports information assurance process in a technical role by complying with technical controls, technical checklists etc.,

  • Validates solutions are within compliance specifications of CSfC, GDIT Cyber Team and USG sponsoring agency OPS

  • Manages laptop imaging process to fulfill orders

  • Coordinates maintenance activities including testing and scheduling for maintenance outages ensuring that all change records have been approved prior to maintenance events

  • Upgrades and manages all domain services and work with various system owners to coordinate systems upgrades, system backups as well as hardware refreshes

  • Responsible for operational availability of all the systems hosted within the MRN infrastructure

  • Establishes, maintains and executes operations procedures to leverage efficiencies and best practices

  • Establishes technical standards and ensure adherence to them for operations

  • Defines and manages performance metrics for technology and IT operations

  • Defines monitoring requirements for servers and applications as well as develops and deploys alerting strategies

  • Position Required Skills:

  • Experience and familiarity with virtualization technologies (ex. MS Hyper-V, VMWare, Citrix, Cisco UCS)

  • Extensive knowledge administering and managing Microsoft Windows Server 2012R2, 2016 and 2019 operating systems

  • Expert working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and Group Policy to manage enterprise environment

  • Experience automating repeatable processes using PowerShell scripting

  • Experience with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)

  • Experience working as a part of a small team and working directly with customers

  • Ability to architect and deploy Active Directory DC design, Schema, OU design, AD replication topology, and DC backup/restore procedures

  • Experience with Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS) and AD Connect

  • Administration experience with Microsoft products such as: Data Protection Manager (DPM), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Exchange or Exchange Online

  • Strong communication skills

  • Knowledge/experience with cross-domain solutions

  • Perform proactive monitoring of system logs, services, scripts, and applications on servers’ systems, storage arrays for internal and customer-facing applications

  • Software and hardware troubleshooting skills to resolve issues Required Education, Experience and Certifications

  • BS in computer science, computer systems, electrical, mechanical, network or other engineering disciplines, mathematics or statistics and at least 10 years of specialized IT experience in Microsoft Windows administration and engineering

  • Experienced in AWS, AZURE, Google Cloud Services, or other Cloud environments Desired:

  • Advance degree in Information Technology related discipline

  • Microsoft certifications

  • Experience troubleshooting network connectivity issues involving Firewalls, Load Balancers, and Proxy servers

  • Splunk implementation experience

  • ITIL Foundations V3 or V4
