Job Description

The Visual Arts and Design Department (http://www.tarleton.edu/visualarts/) housed within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts actively seeks highly qualified candidates to apply for the Instructor of Digital Media Studies position who can teach lower-level foundation courses in art and art history.

This is a 9-month appointment located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. Primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate. Requires the ability to teach and/or work remotely at the University’s discretion. This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching, mentor undergraduate students, and participate in the necessary operation of the institution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

100% Teaching and Service:

  • Develop, implement, and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology, and other tools

  • Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline

  • Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes

  • Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning

  • Maintain an appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry

  • Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation

  • Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty

    Minimum Requirements:

  • MFA or terminal degree in a related field with demonstrated skill in Digital Arts, Digital Design, and/or New Media

  • ABD is considered, but evidence of successfully completing the terminal degree must be presented before the effective hire date

  • Two years of experience teaching at the university level

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction; written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct effective teaching and research activities; ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.
