SAFETY AIDE

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Safety Aide to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Safety Aide for our City Sanctuary Facility for Families w/ Children in Staten Island, NY. As a Safety Aide, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, working within the security department, but collaborating with other units to ensure the safety and comfort of the families we serve. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrol interior and exterior areas of building.

  • Monitor the entry and exit of residents by maintaining a sign-in log and requiring identification.

  • Enforce rules and regulations.

  • Prepare incident reports or maintenance tickets on hazardous or dangerous conditions.

  • Learn the fire safety plan and evacuation procedures and assist in fire drills.

  • Prepare and assist in hazardous situations in the facility.

  • Intervene in incidents and assist in emergencies throughout the building.

  • Must be attentive to their post and could be standing for hours throughout their shift.

  • Assist in emergency building situations (e.g. shovel snow, clean up a spill, etc.)

  • Mandatory overtime which can include working a full double shift.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid NYS Security Guard License.

  • Current 8-hour certificate.

  • 16-hour certificate.

  • Fire Guard (F-2) or Fire Safety Coordinator license a plus. Must be obtained within 2 months of employment.
