About the Role

The Materials Area Leader is responsible for assigning work and coordinating daily materials conveyance activities to ensure the safety and efficiency of production operations. This position carries direct leadership responsibility including responsibility for the operations of more than one shift.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Teach, coach and mentor Supervisors for succession planning and enhancement of Leadership knowledge and skills

  2. Conducts performance appraisals informally or formally as required and ensures performance appraisals are completed for all employees

  3. Ensures employees are trained or certified, as required and participates in training programs as required

  4. Establish and maintain effective communications/interaction with all other Departments

  5. Supports other Area Leaders and Lead Hands in compliance with the Presstran Health and Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental

  6. Ensures employees are trained or certified, as required and participates in training programs as defined by Presstran

  7. Plans and directs the utilization and use of all equipment and manpower to achieve the most effective results

  8. Be responsible and accountable for meeting Presstran and departmental targets and goals

  9. Monitors and adjusts inventory balances as required, investigates inventory problems and implements solution to source

  10. Participates in personnel requirements planning, overtime scheduling, coordinating layoffs, etc.

  11. Co-ordinates preventative maintenance with Material Handling Equipment

  12. Supports supervisors in compliance with OHSA procedures;

  13. Participates in performing regular workplace inspections; suggests corrective actions and supports the implementation; leads investigation in serious/critical incident/accidents

  14. Co-ordinates the loading and unloading of trucks and is responsible for the accuracy of receipts and shipments

Who we are looking for

  1. Completion of post-secondary education in a related field (production/materials) and/or related work experience

  2. 3-5 years leadership experience

  3. Completion of Cosma International Post Graduate Program an asset

  4. Experience in Material Flow Design in a Tier One automotive environment

  5. ERP systems experience, specifically CMS in a manufacturing environment

  6. Demonstrated ability to use Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) along with data analysis to drive business objectivesand operational excellence

  7. Experienced in Lean Implementation (standardized work (tugger/forklift), 5S, value stream mapping, A3 Method, etc.)

  8. Must have a thorough knowledge of general office procedures including PC and LAN computer use. Must be proficient in relevant computer software and program use.

  9. Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, and drive team to reach targets

  10. Must possess time management, leadership, strong communication, organizational and presentation skills (present to groups of up to 100 employees)
