The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our Forensic Services within the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) division of agency.

The Forensics Services campus in St. Peter is comprised of the Forensic Mental Health Program, Forensic Nursing Home, and Community Integrated Services. Forensics Services provides mental health evaluation and treatment services to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness who present a risk to public safety. This is a safe and secure treatment environment.

Our team is seeking to fill an Assistant Director of Social Work role.

Duties:

  • Assist in managing fiscal, human, and technical resources sufficiently to meet assessed needs.

  • Assist with management of Social Services, including planning, implementing administrative processes, and evaluating clinical services.

  • Ensure that service delivery is consistent with Forensic Services Strategic Plan.

  • Ensure the competency of department staff members and ensures their quality of work and standards of practice align with standards established by the Minnesota Board of Social Work, the National Association of Social Work, and national trends in the field.

  • Serve on statewide committees to support best practices and recommend updated practice standards, direct implementation of needed changes and influence the development of strategic plans.

  • Provide administrative supervision and leadership in social work service delivery and the establishment of best practices for Forensic Services. While collaborating with community stakeholders (e.g., county leaders, the judiciary, etc.) and other divisions of DCT to ensure high quality social service provision to patients served.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, you must be licensed to practice social work in the state of Minnesota; OR be currently licensed to practice social work in another jurisdiction and must obtain licensure in Minnesota prior to appointment. Licensed holder must be active and be in good status with the Board.

In addition, you must satisfy one of the following combinations of licensure and experience:

  • Licensed in the State of Minnesota

  • 3 years’ of experience supervising staff who are working with people with mental illness and clinical expertise specific to patient populations and treatment modalities, and knowledge of relevant and current mental health practices.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant resources within the forensic continuum of care, including inpatient, outpatient, and community support services.

Leadership experience can include:

  • Skill in monitoring, documenting, and evaluating various processes.

  • Skill in mentoring & facilitating others' constructive participation & support for the program mission.

  • Ability to collaborate with others to develop and implement services to address service needs.

  • Experience as a supervisor, lead worker, team lead, project lead;

  • Completion of a State of Minnesota leadership program (e.g. ELI, L4);

  • A paid/unpaid position leading a program or chairing a committee (e.g. ERG) - experience must include: o 1+ year of experience identifying issues, goals and strategic actions. o 100+ hours per year time commitment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have at least 2 years (4000 hours) of direct Social Work experience.

  • Have at least one year (2,000 hours) of professional experience in providing clinical or practice-based supervision equivalent leadership.

  • Have a foundational knowledge of Forensic policies and procedures.

  • Experience working with forensic populations and/or evidence-based treatments for clients with complex trauma, severe persistent mental illness, developmental disabilities, intense behavioral needs, substance abuse and other co-occurring disorders.
