Men's Hockey Head Coach Athletics Description JOB SUMMARY: The Men's Hockey Coach will possess a proven ability to coach hockey, as well as recruit the best possible student-athletes. Full-time coaches in Gustavus Athletics also have the responsibility to serve another Administrative role as assigned. Gustavus Adolphus College competes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as an NCAA Division III member. Employment Type: Full-time (.88 FTE), Exempt (Salaried), Benefits-Eligible MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Player Development: Provide instruction and guidance to help players improve their skating, passing, shooting, and defensive skills. Tailor coaching techniques to individual and team needs. Practice Planning: Create clearly structured progressive practice plans that focus on skill development, teamwork, and fitness. Monitor and evaluate players' progress during practice. Player Assessment: Conduct player evaluations to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and make recommendations for player development. Mentoring: Serve as a mentor and role model for players, promoting sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork both on and off the ice. Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with the coaching staff, players, and administration to address concerns, share feedback, and keep everyone informed regarding the program. Recruiting: Recruit and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes. Meet with prospective student-athletes on and off campus, while working closely with and within the guidelines of the Admission office and within the rules of the NCAA. Safety and Equipment: Ensure the safety of players during practices and games. Oversee the maintenance of hockey equipment and facilities. Program Support: Coordinate promotional events for the program, while planning community service opportunities and fundraising efforts. Management: Oversee all administrative duties of running a competitive Division III hockey program. Responsible for developing and mentoring the coaching staff. Oversee the hockey budget, including fundraising, with the expectations of managing a balanced budget. Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques in ice hockey coaching and recruiting. All other duties as assigned.
