Position Overview:

The St. Paul Park Refinery has a full-time, exempt opening for an Electrical Reliability Engineer. The position provides electrical engineering support to ensure reliable operations of refinery’s electrical power distribution system. The successful candidate will perform condition monitoring, troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis and project support and identifies short and long-term improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides electrical engineering technical support to refinery departments. Troubleshoots and resolves electrical-related issues. Assists in design of high and low voltage electrical systems. Monitors electrical power distribution system. Maintains baseline appraisals of electrical capacity, identifying load flows, problem areas and areas of excess capacity. Monitors critical equipment analysis to identify reliability improvement opportunities.

  • Supports electrical systems modernization projects and capital projects through involvement in electrical system specifications, hardware and software design, testing, commissioning, training, and documentation.

  • Provides support through all phases of capital and expense projects. Participates in technical reviews to ensure detailed electrical engineering meets design specifications, codes and engineering standards. Assists team in Project Execution stage in completion of detailed design, construction and installation of facilities and equipment.

  • Provides engineering support for investigations on adverse incidents involving electrical system disturbances and electrical equipment failures. Ensures refinery compliance with Process Safety Management and Management of Change (MOC).

  • In conjunction with other engineers and Maintenance, assists in design and implementation of reliability-centered maintenance programs for critical electrical equipment including preventative and predictive maintenance. Advocates benefits of reliability practices and fosters integration into plant operations. Works with electricians and E&I technicians. Reviews procedure manuals for technical adequacy.

  • Manage the electrical equipment database in the maintenance management systems (SAP, APM).

  • Promote site compliance with industry and company standards.

  • Manage and maintain 5-year budget cycles for electrical reliability improvements, projects, and maintenance strategies.

  • Will conduct some work outdoors in a process operation environment.

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience or 10+ years of equivalent work experience required if non-degreed.

  • Familiarity with NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, NETA Acceptance and IEEE.
