U Market Services offers online purchasing; materials management and centralized logistics services that provides University departments and collegiate units with e-business access to over 4 million frequently used office, lab, custodial, medical, and MRO supplies. Products are competitively priced, ordered via a fully electronic system, and orders are delivered the next day to on-campus locations. Product ordering, approval, billing, reporting and tracking are all accomplished on-line. U Market Services logistics staff complete 1000 deliveries each day including packages, mail, building materials, and just about anything else bound for the Twin Cities campuses. Incoming shipments are consolidated to reduce the number of delivery vehicles on campus streets. Promotional priority for Teamsters runs from 12/22/2021 through 12/29/2021 Description of Position Positions in this class perform a variety of tasks focused on the storing, receiving, issuing, distributing and ordering of materials, equipment and supplies. Responsibilities 50% Order Filling and Distribution. Fills customer orders for supplies, equipment, and materials Picks up, delivers or coordinates delivery of a wide variety of materials, equipment, supplies, tools, and other packages 20% Inventory Maintenance. Keeps an inventory of stock as it is received and issued. May determine need for stock replenishment and order supplies to maintain inventory in warehouse or other designated locations. Reports breakage, loss, and back orders as appropriate. 15% Shipping and Receiving. Unloads and unpacks deliveries of materials, supplies, and equipment. Receive and sign for incoming shipments. Check contents against delivery receipts noting size, number, type, condition and other discrepancies; record shortages, overages, or other discrepancies. Note and report product quality deficiencies. Coordinates outgoing shipments for the department and the customers the department serves. 5% Participation in Problem Solving. Provide information, answers questions and resolves problems regarding shipping, receiving, and storing of supplies, equipment or materials. Utilizes the telephone and/or computer to correspond with others. 5 % Information Systems Usage. Accesses information regarding orders, inventory, vendor or product information, and related materials via paper copy, computer or other communication devices. Compiles and prints orders from Information System. May prepare reports. 5% Maintenance of inventory locations. Arranges storage space. Shelves and stores supplies, equipment, and materials. Inspects stores regularly and maintains clean and orderly goods. Essential Functions of the Position Employees in this position provide reliable and efficient inventory maintenance and distribution of materials and equipment in a variety of locations. These employees safely operate all materials handling equipment and vehicles necessary to complete tasks. A high level of accuracy and dedication to customer service is required.. Work Environment Work in this classification can include both inside and outside environments. Inside work includes mainly warehouse environments but can also include office, classroom, laboratory, and custodial closet locations. Outside work can include exposure to varied weather environments. Hourly Rate: $15.92 Work Days: Monday - Friday; 7am - 3:30pm Minimum Qualifications__ This work requires the ability to read, write and make arithmetic computations and six months of experience in warehousing, storekeeping, or inventory methods. Knowledge of stockroom and stock control items, methods and procedures; inventory procedures and inventory record maintenance, common clerical procedures, standard abbreviations used in shipping and designating weights and measures. This position requires the ability to walk or stand; bend and climb to reach materials; carry and lift materials up to 50 lbs; maneuver a filled deliv ry cart; operate forklift, manual/electric pallet jack, or other equipment; operate a computer, copier, and other office equipment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: Knowledge of vehicle and materials handling operation and safety rules are requirements for the position. Safe handling practices and efficient inventory and warehouse methods are also expected in this position. Skills Excellent communication and customer service skills are also required. Accuracy and efficiency are necessary in all functions of this position. Abilities Ability to operate all proof of delivery technology and to safely operate all vehicles and material handling equipment covered under this classification.
