Safety Specialist

Full Time: 8:00am -- 5:00pm, Monday -- Friday.

 

*Position Summary: *

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all LECO employees, visitors, and guests, as well as ensuring that manufacturing operations are done in a safe manner.

*Position Responsibilities: *

  • Help ensure the safety of all LECO employees, visitors, and guests
  • Constantly monitor OSHA and MIOSHA (and other agencies) for new safety regulations and/or updates to existing safety regulations
  • Conduct new employee training classes for all new hires (and refresher training for current employees)
  • Conduct hazard-specific training classes
  • Develop and maintain training records for all employees
  • Conduct/coordinate air quality monitoring and noise level measurements in various departments
  • Coordinate annual respirator fit testing
  • Perform Safety Audits of all LECO facilities
  • Author and maintain various corporate written programs and policies (such as Machine Guarding, Lockout/Tagout, Emergency Response Plan, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for all job titles within the company
  • Investigate all workplace accidents and take/recommend corrective actions
  • Electronically file OSHA 300 Logs annually and post 300A summaries at all facilities
  • Investigate all chemical spills and take/recommend corrective actions
  • Recommend, purchase, and maintain inventory of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Serve on the Safety Council and other safety committees
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) binders for hazardous in-house chemicals at various facilities
  • Perform other duties as required

*Position Requirements: *

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations (MIOSHA, general industry preferred)
  • Familiarity with HAZMAT, ANSI, NFPA
  • Familiarity with AED/CPR/First-Aid (preferred)
  • Ability to interact and work with various departments
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning software (Oracle preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and in a group environment
  • Ability to travel to different local LECO facilities

*Education/Certifications: *

  • Associate of Science in Occupational Safety and Health (preferred)
  • OSHA/MIOSHA 30-Hour certificate in general industry (preferred)
