Berrien County Road Department - Medium Equipment Operator (Winter Seasonal) in St Joseph, Michigan

Medium Equipment Operator - Winter Seasonal

  • $20.00/ Hour
  • This seasonal position allows for a maximum of 1,000 hours per calendar year. It does not include any benefits.

Duties:

  • Operates Road Department motor vehicles, including commercial motor vehicles and attachments of various sizes and shapes.
  • Operates various hand and motorized specialty tools safely and proficiently.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs road signs, delineators post and buttons, guardrails, right-of-way fencing, barricades.
  • Performs various forms of manual labor, either alone or with a fellow worker.
  • Participates in patching and sealing operations, manhole and culvert installations, and all general road and right-of-way maintenance.
  • Inspects and performs minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Services vehicles, changes tires and scraper blades, etc.
  • Provides traffic control operations such as flag control and installing and removing constructions signs.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in a construction trade or truck driving.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions for nighttime driving.
  • Valid Class-A Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and appropriate medical card.
  • Must occasionally be available to work shifts exceeding 8 hours.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to perform job functions on a variety of terrains and surfaces in all types of weather and lighting conditions.
  • Must have the physical ability to perform job duties with varying frequency and duration, including but not limited to: repetitive bending, twisting, stooping, standing, climbing and lifting up to 80 pounds.
  • Capable of working alone or with minimum supervision.
