Job Description

Lay out and inspect gages, equipment, tools, parts, etc. verifying accuracy of measurements, workability, and reliability of such equipment to directions, specifications, and/or drawings conduct and coordinate calibrations within timing requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and develop layouts from blueprints and templates, applying knowledge of trigonometry, design, effects of heat, and properties of metals.

  • Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts such as plates, gages, etc.

  • Mark curves, lines, holes, and dimensions using scribes, soap stones, punches, and hand drills.

  • Compute layout dimensions, and determine and mark reference points on metal stock or work pieces for further processing.

  • Locate center lines and verify template positions, using measuring instruments such as gauge blocks, height gauges, and dial indicators.

  • Lift and position work pieces in relation to surface plates, manually or with hoists, and using parallel blocks and angle plates.

  • Utilize other common inspection gages such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM)

  • Inspect machined assemblies, purchased parts of various types to verify conformance to specifications.

  • Add dimensional details to blueprints or drawings made by other workers.

  • Provide daily lab functions (filing reports, maintaining storage cabinets, maintaining resource library, housekeeping duties as needed and maintaining computer system).

  • Follow standard measurement techniques.

  • Ensure gauges used in R&R studies are calibrated to standards.

  • Provide general dimensional support for in-house product issues as well as customer and supplier product issues.

  • Operate lab equipment, as assigned, while maintaining the required accuracy’s and precision.

  • As assigned, perform one or more of the following:

  • Perform incoming receiving layouts on parts gages or tools.

  • Maintain the gauge calibration and recall system, including gauge R&R studies.

  • Order new gauges and coordinate the repair of gauges as needed.

  • Support shop floor metrology system.

  • Program 2-D and 3-D computerized metrology equipment.

  • Develop lab accreditation procedures and support TS16949 as required.

  • Clean and maintain work area and equipment.

  • Special projects as required.

  • Support gage R&R studies.

  • Support process & tool capability studies.

  • Implement reaction and corrective action activities when gage, tool, process or part is found to be non-conforming, including notification to supervisor.

  • Develop new lab measurement techniques.

  • Perform supporting ISIR layout, gage certification, R&R, gage validation to support TS16949 - MSA and PPAP requirements.

  • Support TS16949 as required.

  • Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures as directed by the company.

  • Perform Part Submission Warrant (PSW) and Initial Sample Inspection Report (ISIR) studies.

  • Support capability studies.

  • Perform minor maintenance and repair on lab equipment.

  • Provide daily lab functions (filing reports, maintaining storage cabinets, maintain lab’s resource library, housekeeping duties as needed and maintain lab’s computer system).

  • Provide general dimensional support for in-house product issues as well as customer product issues.
