About the Role

Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, the Application Robotics Engineer works independently and confers regularly with division, corporate, contractors, customer, and supplier staff specialists. The Application Robotics Engineer will provide technical expertise for robotic applications to ensure product quality and continuous improvement to the manufacturing processes. The position is responsible for troubleshooting robotic systems, performing preventative and predictive maintenance on systems to minimize downtime, while keeping safety as a priority. The position will also provide training and technical support to Production and Skilled Trade Team members.

Your Responsibilities

  • Participate in Line or project sourcing, including rfi\rfq creations and alignment during sourcing process

  • Identify and perform continuous improvement activities to improve safety, increase productivity and reduce production cost, by development and improvement of electrical control systems.

  • Fanuc DCS Certification required. Robo Guide Simulation for project and program support

  • Capital Management (Robots, weld controllers, lasers, turn tables, rtu) both launch and plant level.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, CAD viewer programs.

  • Familiarity with Engineering and Quality practices and procedures including PPAP, blueprint reading, GD&T, use of measuring instruments, checking aids/fixtures, mechanical testing, etc.

  • Experience/knowledge in robotic programming for welding processes (Fanuc programming an asset).

  • Familiarity with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.

  • Knowledge of GM weld standards and specifications.

  • Knowledge of AWS and RWMA standards.

  • Ability to prepare, read, write, and interpret written reports, procedures, instructions, and guidelines.

  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot equipment, processes, etc.

  • Able to appreciate and maintain proper level of confidentiality, using discretion and tact.

  • Ability to travel to all integrators

Who we are looking for

  • Support launch activities

  • Create and implement projects as defined by other departments. Support ECR changes from internal and external clients.

  • Support program\project pre-cost analysis

  • Coordinate activities, reviews and execution with all departments.

  • Lead Robotic related projects including timing, budget and execution

  • Develop and support new technologies

  • Ensure that operator safety devices function properly while programming complex robotic systems.

  • Perform preventive or corrective maintenance on robotic systems or components.

  • Evaluate the efficiency and reliability of industrial robotic systems, reprogramming or calibrating to achieve maximum quantity and quality.

  • Ability to perform electrical diagnosis, recommend repair or repair as needed.

  • Troubleshoot and train others on identifying root causes of equipment failures. Ensure that the line is built in accordance with all aspects of the latest version of the build standards.

  • Utilize good working knowledge of all technologies used in the development and build of automated assembly lines. Execute equipment efficiency studies, through time and motion studies, or standard data to ensure effective line balancing.

  • Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g., TS16949, ISO14001).

  • Complies with all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA. Follows and ensures Company procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed.

Your preferred qualifications

  • 2-5 years’ experience with robots and PLC control systems in a robotic welding process environment, preferably in an industrial automotive setting.

  • High School Diploma or GED and at least a 2-year degree from an accredited technical college or post-secondary school with emphasis on Robotics.

  • Fanuc DCS Certification preferred.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, CAD viewer programs.
