Description

The ideal candidate would be a current law enforcement officer, professional firefighter or a retired law enforcement officer or professional firefighter with 20 years’ job experience. The candidate must be available for large scale, highly attended events and drills on campus, such as Men’s Division 1 basketball, commencement or spring weekend activities. Protects life and property with a focus on events on campus with a higher threat level potential than regular patrol. Identifies and reports unsafe conditions on campus, handles emergencies and other inquiries for the Office of Safety and Security. Identifies strengths and weaknesses of emergency preparedness plans, policies, systems and procedures, and makes recommendations for improvements. Assist with emergency planning to include development, maintenance and updating site emergency and action plans. Must be able to work independently and with a team.

Examples of Duties

Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency medical services personnel to ensure a safe event.20%

Patrol venue interior and report unusual, unsafe or suspicious activities.20

Develop, maintain, and implement event emergency action plans.

Act as a crowd manager to satisfy NYS fire safety compliance.

Accurately, and with great detail, gather clear and concise event information and render assistance to the campus community and general public. Communicate and assist other security professionals in rendering assistance in Campus events.

Patrol exterior parking areas for compliance.10

Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful University Community.

Assist campus Safety and Security professions as needed.

Typical Qualifications

  • Possess a certification or ability to successfully complete NIMS (National Incident Management System) Training

  • Possess a certification or ability to successfully complete crowd management training through the NY State Department of Homeland Security, Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

  • Active law enforcement officer or paid professional firefighter or retired law enforcement, corrections, or professional paid fire service officer with 20 years experience.

  • Valid driver’s license, ability to pass a level four security clearance, ability to acquire NYS Security Guard License

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Applicants must have strong leadership, good interpersonal communication skills, experience with crowd control. The successful candidate must possess a high degree of reliability. Successful candidate will also possess the ability to relate well to students, faculty and a diverse community.

May encounter exposure to inclement weather for substantial duration, exposure to hazards associated with campus grounds. May be subject to physical exertion consistent with security guard duties.
