Sr Commodity Manager (Sr Buyer)

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Sr. Commodity Manager is responsible for developing commodity strategies for current and future programs, sourcing and qualifying vendors, negotiating pricing, and placing purchase orders to fulfill demand. The goal is to ensure the smooth and cost-efficient material flow to support our operations in a manner that demonstrates, “Everything is Important.”

This position is located on-site in our Daventry location.

Essential Functions

  • Manage all aspects of assigned commodities, including commodity strategies, market conditions, technology roadmaps, and should cost creation

  • Responsible for issuance of RFQs

  • Responsible for managing a supply base that meet Singer’s Cost, Quality, and Delivery targets

  • Manage supplier contractual framework, including NDAs, GT&Cs, MSAs, and PSAs

  • Accountable for ensuring accuracy of part master data within MRP

  • Generate purchase requisitions and place Purchase Orders with suppliers, to meet demand

  • Accountable for on-time delivery of purchased material, at (or below) planned costs

  • Negotiate pricing with vendors to reduce total material cost

  • Identify part supply constraints that may impact production schedule and create mitigation plans

  • Work in a cross-functional team environment as a strong team player and demonstrate ability to work with other functional groups to achieve company-wide goals

  • Mentor junior team members

  • Lead cost development activities to ensure best-in-class pricing

  • Serve as the point of contact for the product development team to assess supply base feasibility and guide early sourcing decisions

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Education/Experience

  • Degree in business, supply chain, or other relevant fields

  • Seven (7) plus years of experience as Buyer, Purchasing Agent, Purchasing Specialist, GSM or equivalent

  • Proven ability to onboard and contract pricing agreements with suppliers

  • Knowledge of procurement strategies, should cost models and technology roadmaps

Preferred Education/Experience and/or Certifications

  • Proficient in Fishbowl or similar MRP systems

  • Experience in aerospace or automotive manufacturing

  • Prior experience in rapid growth environment

Skills/Abilities and Attributes

  • Strong ability to coach and lead team members within the department

  • Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, math, and statistics

  • Effective written and verbal communications skills; ability to express ideas clearly and actively listen to others

  • Team oriented, with a strong ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment to multiple deadlines

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize effectively and efficiently

  • Excellent time management with an ability to balance multiple projects and timelines and to meet deadlines

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Must be able to drive and travel for business, including occasional travel by commercial airplane
