Kennel Assistant Location: Clark County Dog Shelter, 5201 Urbana Rd., Springfield, OH Supervisor: Chief Dog Warden Pay: $14.22 per hour, 3.5% increase upon successful completion of probationary period Approximately 12-15 hours per week Classification: Part-Time, Classified, Non-Exempt Date Issued: July 27, 2023 Filing Deadline: Until filled -- first review of applications on August 11, 2023. Oversee pet adoptions; dog licensing; administer first aid to dogs as needed; feed and water dogs as needed. Clean and maintain kennel area and care for all animals housed at the facility. Receive telephone complaints, record and deliver messages when appropriate, prepare and maintain records and other required documentation. ? Communicate with the general public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to exchange information or resolve problems. ? Maintain current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to functions of the County Dog Warden. Unusual Working Conditions/Hazards: ? Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, run, lift, carry, push and/or pull objects, materials, and/or animals of moderate weight to heavy weight. ? Must be able to perceive and discriminate sounds, odors, depth, textures, and visual cues or signals. ? Must be able to communicate orally. ? May be exposed to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, smoke, water, mud, pollen, odors, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, vicious animals, wildlife, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances. Minimum Qualifications: ? GED or high school diploma. Must have reliable transportation. Must work with the public, volunteers, peers, elected and appointed officials in a professional manner. Must be able to handle dogs that may be aggressive and untrained. Must work independently or as a team. Preferred experience in caring for animals in a shelter setting or at a veterinarian's office, animal behavior or related field, or any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. Must be available weekends and holidays. Regular and reliable attendance required. More hours may be available during training and at other times throughout the year.
