Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Supervisor – Safety or designee, assists with the development, administration, coordination, and implementation of City Utilities’ (CU) multiple safety and health programs (in all commodities: Gas, Water, Electric, Power Generation, Telecommunications, SpringNet and Transit and Fleet Management), including related training activities. Assists with administration and coordination of workers compensation programs and works with workers compensation Third Party Administrator (TPA).

Experience Required:

Education and Experience: Safety Specialist I: Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related field is required. Exceptional experience in safety and health, may be considered in lieu of a college degree on a year-for-year basis. Minimum of two or more years’ recent experience related to safety and/or health programs or safety training is required. Master’s degree may be considered in lieu of one year of the experience requirement. Experience in utility safety programs is preferred. Knowledge and experience in Workers Compensation processes and procedures is preferred. Safety Specialist II: In addition to the requirements for the Safety Specialist I, this position requires a minimum of five or more years’ recent experience related to safety and/or health programs or safety training is required. Experience in utility related safety and health programs will be given preference. Licensing/Certification: Safety Specialist I: Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar Safety Certification is preferred. Valid Missouri driver’s license (minimum Class F) required. Safety Specialist II: Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or similar Safety Certification or ability to obtain within two years is required. Valid Missouri driver’s license (minimum Class F) required.
