Trinity Health Pathologists' Assistant - Per Diem in Springfield, Massachusetts

Description:

Mercy Medical Center, Springfield MA Pathologists' Assistant - PER DIEM

You would be responsible for gross descriptions, dissection of surgical specimens and preparation of tissue for processing by the Histology laboratory. Perform and/or supervise post-mortem examination, including review of patient’s clinical history, evisceration and dissection of organs, sampling of tissues, photography of specimens, dictation of gross autopsy findings and preparation of provisional anatomic diagnosis under supervision of attending pathologist.

What You Would Do:

  • Performs gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens, postmortem examinations and drafts preliminary anatomic diagnosis

  • Prepares tissue for numerous pathologic tests as deemed necessary, including but not limited to frozen section, touch preparation, flow cytometry, cytogenetic studies, decalcification and routine/immunohistochemical staining

  • Photographs gross specimens and catalogs photographs for archival purposes and helps to prepare for educational conferences and provides training to pathology personnel

  • Handles specimen and client issues as related to specimen integrity and patient care

  • Compiles and analyzes data for preparation of QA reports and creates, updates and maintains surgical pathology written procedures

  • Monitors and maintains compliance with outside agencies (e.g., badge testing, CLIA/CAP certificates for send-outs); performs daily coding audits of CPT codes (88300 through 88309 series)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters of Health Science degree

  • Board Certified with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and certification maintenance every 3 years

  • Fellowship status in the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants (AAPA)
