LIFEGUARD Position Purpose/Summary Responsible for the safety of the patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. Essential Functions Recognize emergencies and respond to them effectively Enforce all aquatic rules, policies, and regulations to ALL patrons Inspect the facility before opening and closing to report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor Complete all paperwork during shifts Participate in regular in-service training sessions Sign-in all bathers using the facility Pick up any and all types of trash in and around the pool facility Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures Leadership and public relation skills Decision making skills Education and Experience Current certification in the following is needed: American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training/First Aid American Red Cross or American Heart CPR for the Professional Rescuer American Red Cross Waterfront Life guarding, if working at 5-Mile Pond
