Job Purpose:

Make Product Engineering drawings meeting American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Smith & Wesson's drawing standards, rules and guidelines. This includes all aspects of the drawing but not limited to: drawing title box, part material properties, drawing views, datums, tolerances, geometric dimensioning callouts, notes and revision control. Work with the Product Engineer to validate the drawing meets the design requirements. Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, including create, update, and modify designs for both solid models and drawings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates CAD drawings for engineering projects.

  • Creates and modifies designs for special assignments.

  • Extensive solid modeling and drafting using SolidWorks 3D CAD software.

  • Working with current geometric tolerance and ASME standards, utilizing standard drafting practices.

  • Using Microsoft Office tools including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point and Matrix PLM.

  • Interaction with all levels of management, employees, and vendors to accomplish tasks leading to the creation/revision of Smith & Wesson product drawings and other presentation documents and media.

  • Use various file management software.

  • Make basic Tool Design Drawings (during peak workloads as needed)

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned

Reviews engineering drawing and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards. May require an associate's degree in a related area and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • 10-15 Years or more experience preferred making drawings using CAD.

  • Create drawings under minimal supervision and guidance.

  • Monitor work and coordinate projects to meet completion dates.

  • High Level Solid Model creation.

  • High Level drawing and assembly complexity.

  • Peer Drafting Checking responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience, Competencies and Education

  • The ideal candidate would have an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Design knowledge, and Solidworks experience.

  • A four-year formal vocational high school degree of mechanical drafting (CAD) and/or actual Design drafting experience is also acceptable.

  • CAD knowledge of SolidWorks is preferred.

  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to perform all drafting tasks.

  • REASONING ABILITY

  • With minimal supervision, demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems, interpret, resolving problems and issues using a variety of instructions or guides furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • CSWA (Certified SolidWorks Associate) SolidWorks experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Standing, sitting, stooping and squatting can be expected along with lifting or with other means transfer of parts on an occasional basis. Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The performance of this position normally requires exposure to typical manufacturing areas that under certain conditions may require the use of personal protective equipment such as Safety Glasses with Side Shields and hearing protection. Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Industrial lighting provided.
