Mathematica Sr. Communications Specialist (Remote Eligible) in Springfield, Illinois

Position Description: Mathematica is searching for a Sr. Communications Specialist! The Sr. Communications Specialist will provide a full range of dissemination and engagement services, including strategic planning and execution, message and content development, media relations, policymaker relations, and community engagement. Significant responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic dissemination plans in support of client deliverables and goals. The Sr. Communications Specialist will plan and execute diversified engagement activities that facilitate the application of evidence to policies and programs.

  • Core Responsibilities:*

• Translate and disseminate policy-relevant evidence through a variety of formats and channels • Together with project teams, client representatives, and relevant external partners, co-create strategic messaging, dissemination, and engagement plans in support of project activities • Together with project teams, client representatives, and relevant external partners, develop and implement strategic outreach campaigns, including the identification and engagement of primary and secondary audiences, appropriate engagement vehicles, and relevant engagement metrics • Develop and maintain network of media/journalist contacts; regularly conceive, pitch, and place stories in relevant national, local, and trade media outlets • Support government affairs and project colleagues in planning and execution of policymaker briefings and events • Collaborate with thought leadership, external partners, and project/business unit colleagues in planning and execution of inclusive events, including thought leadership forums and project webinars that highlight expert voices and diverse perspectives from the field • Partner with business unit leadership and enterprise business development teams to develop and implement strategies and engagement plans that help promote brand and offering awareness and support lead generation at professional conferences, events, in meetings, online, and in other fora • Write and support development of compelling content for the company’s external website, engagement emails, electronic newsletters, blog posts, podcasts, and social media platforms • Collaborate with subject matter experts and editorial, creative, and digital services colleagues to conceptualize, plan, and produce high-quality digital and print products that effectively engage priority audiences • Support project and proposal teams by developing innovative strategies for community engagement and dissemination; contribute budget assumptions and estimates; provide proposal teams with strategic communications counsel and serve as an intermediary for graphic design and layout of proposals • Actively support the advancement of organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, and apply diversity, equity, and inclusion lens across job responsibilities • Additional duties may be assigned as needed

Position Requirements:

• Excellent writing skills a must; work should require minimal oversight and editing • Ability to synthesize and convey, through a variety of platforms and media, complex data and information for diverse audiences • Thorough knowledge of international, federal, or state policy issues in health, education, early childhood, employment, family support, international development, and/or nutrition • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, a plus • Exceptional project management and client service (internal and external) skills • Exercise sound judgment and work independently to accomplish tasks

Education minimum requirement:

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or related field; Master’s degree preferred • Seven years of progressively responsible, professional-level experience in a government organization, public relations, or a research or policy-oriented organization, or other comparable experience • A combination of equivalent education and work experience may be substituted for the above requirements. • Excellent writing skills a must; work should require minimal oversight and editing • Ability to synthesize and convey, through a variety of platforms and media, complex data and information for diverse audiences • Thorough knowledge of international, federal, or state policy issues in health, education, early childhood, employment, family support, international development, and/or nutrition • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $90,000-$125,000

This position is eligible for remote work. Candidates also can work hybrid from one of our locations listed below.
