Heidelberg Materials is seeking a CDL Trainee with a current CLP (Commercial Learners Permit) for our Houston, TX. Facility.

What You'll Get to do

Want to be on solid ground in your career? Become a Ready-Mix Driver Apprentice! You can’t get anything more concrete than that! As a Ready-Mix Driver Apprentice, you will have the unprecedented opportunity to acquire your Class B Commercial Driver’s License. At the same time, you earn a paycheck and not be bound to a contract or upfront out-of-pocket tuition fees. You will attend our in-house FMCSA / TXDPS accredited CDL Learning Center, a four-week course where you will learn all facets of Federal and State DOT regulations, Commercial Motor Skills, and Pre-Tipping a Commercial Vehicle. You will obtain your CLP (Commercial Learners Permit) within the first week, and by the end of the fourth week, you will test your skills and knowledge by taking your CDL Driving Skills Test. Upon successful completion, you will have earned your Class B (automatic Restriction) CDL and graduate from our HM CDL Learning Center to a live production Rady-Mix facility where you will work and train with one of our highly motivated and respected Driver Mentors at one of our local Ready-Mix facilities.

Successful candidates will:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be able to learn at an accelerated pace.

  • Be self-motivated and study course material at home.

  • Have reliable transportation.

  • Be punctual and attend all sessions of the course.

  • Work in a group environment.

  • Pass a pre-screening questionnaire.

  • Pay a one-time $25.00 processing fee to TXDPS for your CDL (check or Money order only)

  • Work closely with our Trainers and Mentors.

  • Observe all safety precautions and rules specified by federal, state, and Company regulations, including wearing safety gear while on the CDL Learning Center property, performing pre-trip inspections, completing vehicle inspection reports, and reporting unsafe conditions and accidents, or injuries.

What We Are Looking For

  • CDL Permit Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

  • Proficient reading, writing, and math skills

  • Clean driving record

  • Mechanical background or skills preferred

  • Work Availability upon graduation. Be available to work six days a week (Monday-Saturday) and occasionally on Sunday. Must be able to drive a maximum of eleven hours per day and work up to 14 hours per day as regulated by the Department of Transportation.

  • Solid attendance and punctuality history

  • Ability to climb ladders

  • Ability to lift and assemble concrete chutes weighing up to 30 lbs.

  • Ability to pass a Federal DOT physical (receive a minimum of 1yr medical card).

  • Ability to pass a Federal DOT Drug Screen.
