Cornell Cooperative Extension Camp Health Director, Peconic Dunes Camp - Southold, NY in Southold, New York

The Health Director is responsible for implementing all medical requirements described in the camp safety plan submitted to the Suffolk County Department of Health and ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.

Responsibilities include reviewing, evaluating, protecting, and maintaining campers' health records; securing and administering medicines and treatment to campers according to physicians' orders; recording all treatment according to established procedures and reporting required incidents to the local health department within 24 hours. The Health Director determines when a camper must receive attention from a physician or other medical professional and arranges transportation as needed. The Health Director oversees and coordinates the entire Health Center staff's work and provides training to camp personnel as needed, including, but not limited to, first aid, epi-pen assistance, and inhaler assistance. The Health Director oversees campers' initial health screening and provides a safety briefing to campers every Sunday. The Health Director is responsible for maintaining supply inventory in the Health Center and submitting order requests as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • RN, licensed to practice in New York State; Certifications in CPR/AED and epi-pen as approved by local Department of Health.

  • Able to lift 20 pounds.

  • This is a live-in position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or background in school, visiting, or public health nursing is desirable
