Sun Communities Network Engineer in Southfield, Michigan

Main Office (MOS) OVERVIEW Network Administrators manage the day-to-day aspects of the corporate computing infrastructure including: routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points. They also monitor the network infrastructure to ensure compliance with the companys network security policies. Additionally, Network Administrators identify and participate in projects to improve and advance the company infrastructure. JOB DUTIES * Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts (Essential) * Implements network architectures, including LANs/WANs, LAN Internetworking, and connections with the WAN environment (Essential) * Provides escalation support for network-related issues (Essential) * Establishes checklists and escalation systems to ensure new offices and team members are set-up with the proper equipment, applications and networks to open smoothly and without interruption (Essential) * Provides first and second level technical support to users concerning network system operations (Essential) * Travels to client sites to perform technology site surveys as needed, and installs and configures small office LANs * Other duties as assigned * Diagnoses problems with network equipment and performs equipment repair or upgrades when appropriate * Installs, configures, and maintains network cabling and other networking equipment, such as routers, switches, and UPS * Participates in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing * Establishes network users, user environments, directories, and security for networks * Implements and maintains backup and recovery procedures and services for WAN/LAN equipment and configurations * Provides on-call and after-hours support as needed * Maintains public DNS records and domain registration as well as ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our domain operations * Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput and latency) and test for weaknesses * Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords * Ensure network security and connectivity are maintained at all times REQUIREMENTS * Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (Required) * 2 years administering and managing network router and switches * 6 months experience with working in a disseminated network environment * 6 months experience with API scripting * 2 years experience w/ firewalls, internet, VPN's remote implementation, troubleshooting & problem resolution * Professional Certification (e.g. CCNP, CCIE, ECMS) * Strong organizational and multitasking skills * Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team * Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed * Demonstrated ability to balance and organize multiple projects simultaneously * Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices * Ability to create network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems * Working knowledge of Cisco, Meraki, and Fortinet hardware * Thorough knowledge of technical hardware, software and standards of networking to include router/switching technology (e.g. BGP/OSPF, Ports, Subnetting, Layer3 switching, etc.) to also include LAN, WLAN, WAN, WWAN technologies and standards * Hands-on experience with monitoring , network diagnostic and network analytic tools.
