Eaton’s IS VEH VGGP division is currently seeking an Engineering Intern.

The hourly rate for this position is $21.81 - $24.23 per hour.

What you’ll do:

Job Summary

This Intern position is in the Fuel Emissions & Powertrain Controls Engineering Product Line within Eaton’s Mobility Group.

Job Responsibilities

This assignment requires the Intern to work under the guidance of a Lead Engineer for various design and development activities. An opportunity will be provided to the Intern to learn activities involving a particular product concept through the design and prototyping phase. Job responsibilities include the final design release of drawings, coordinating pre-production build and test activity, and assist in troubleshooting or design improvement recommendations for prototype designs. The Intern will have an opportunity to participate in meetings with internal and external customers, potential suppliers, and cross-functional team members. Functional Skill & Leadership Development Opportunities through this Assignment:

This Intern assignment provides an opportunity in product design and development in a new and emerging technology for hybrid vehicle applications. Important skills will be developed in the areas of customer and supplier relations, applying design for six sigma tools, and APQP for production readiness. The Intern will obtain a unique perspective of the design for manufacturability through cross-functional team meetings and supplier interaction as the team moves through the stages of ProLaunch in preparation for production release.

Goals:

Pro-Launch Phase 1 Activities for Fuel Tank Isolation Valve

Complete Design and Production Validation Plan

  • Working with Lead Technician - track test progress, resolve test issues, analyze data, and document results.

  • Assist with corrective actions for test failures using 8D process. Participate in product improvement design reviews.

  • Provide updates to Customer. Present final results for Design / Production Validation Plan and Report review.

Launch Readiness

  • Coordinate activity with Production Intent Machine/Test Builder: update specification, develop & procure Master parts, finalize qualification plan

  • Participate in supplier and machine builder reviews to resolve issues and obtain PPAP.

  • Assist with Production Intent Supplier releases: Supplier reviews, print updates, and control plan reviews "

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Junior or Senior enrolled in an Engineering program from an accredited university (preferably Mechanical, Material Sciences, or Electrical).

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher (please don't round).

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

  • Relocation is not provided for this role, the candidate must be located within 50 miles of Southfield, MI.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or university project work experience a plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Solid Works or Pro-Engineering CAD.

Skills:

  • Proficient understanding of Design for Six Sigma methodology a plus.
