Fresenius Medical Care North America Supervisor Specimen Handling in Southaven, Mississippi

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day production and administrative management of the Department's operation and personnel and must be accessible to the Laboratory to provide on-site, telephone or electronic consultation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises the daily operations of the team, including but not limited to: establishing mutual goals, assigning tasks and maintaining schedules.

  • Provides direct supervision of the assigned team(s) through ongoing leadership and guidance; partnering with Human Resources on employee matters.

  • Responsible for overseeing daily operations of Specimen Processing Ensuring that daily production deadlines and quality standards are met, within assigned budget and turnaround time.

  • Ensures maintenance of a safe, ergonomically sound, professional environment.

  • Develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures for Specimen Processing in accordance with Spectra guidelines.

  • Ensures all employees meet Compliance Guidelines and Competency Testing.

  • Monitors incoming workflow from Logistics and make necessary changes to ensure adequate supply of specimens to technical departments

  • Ensures integrity of specimens sent to other facilities meet the criteria necessary to provide accurate and timely results.

  • Establishes and motivates a participative work environment that actively encourages and supports employee involvement.

  • Investigates/resolves and responds in a timely manner to internal and external customer complaints appropriately and effectively.

  • Prepares schedules for department employees, maintains adequate coverage for department

  • Ensures continuous process improvement and/or standardization initiatives are implemented in accordance with established deadlines.

  • Responsible for coaching, development and supervision of staff.

  • Organizes and leads projects both within the department, work group and with cross-functional groups. Meet all deadlines assigned by manager.

  • Effectively works with Technical departments to resolve problems. Must have the interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with other departments, and foster continuous improvement.

  • Establishes and maintains a Quality Control Program for the Processing Department that ensures the highest standards from initial receipt of the specimen through data entry.

  • Acts as resource for the Processing Department and liaison with other departments of Spectra regarding technical issues, client-related problems, equipment, pending, budget, billing, shipments, etc.

  • Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires a review of relevant factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Role primarily focuses on tactical execution.

  • Provides direction to employees, according to established policies, procedures and management guidance. Supervises day-to-day operations of employees. Responsible for hiring, coaching and counseling employees, including performance reviews, disciplinary action and terminations.

  • Administers company policies, processes and procedures that directly affect subordinate employees and the workflow unit. Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies.

  • Decisions impact work unit operations; usually limited to how to- execute within defined processes.

  • Frequently interacts internally with subordinates and other supervisors and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects or schedules and basic problem resolution.

  • External interaction is typically with suppliers, vendors, and/or customers. May work with external companies or vendors to resolve routine problems and/or facilitate work flow.

  • Provides technical guidance.

  • Assists with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:

May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Specimen Handlers and Leads.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent work experience

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 2 - 3 years' experience in a high volume lab. and or 1 - 3 years' experience as a Supervisor.

  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices and Regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIAA, OSHA, etc).

  • Strong general management and interpersonal skills (planning, organization, project management, training, etc).

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Good written and oral communication skills (documentation, record keeping, presentations, etc).

  • Knowledge of financial and materials management.

  • PC proficiency.
