Fresenius Medical Care North America Medical Lab Technician - Hematology in Southaven, Mississippi

POSITION FEATURES:

Now offering a $2,000 sign on bonus (external applicants only).

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Performs pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of laboratory testing, using manual procedures as well as operating various laboratory equipment and automated analyzer systems.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acquires job skills and adheres to department procedures.

  • Reviews and complies with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

  • Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative.

  • May refer to Senior Staff with day-to-day problems that may arise.

  • Under general supervision by a Technical Supervisor or Lead, prepares and performs testing, editing, and reporting of various clinical tests as directed under department SOPs and applicable state and private regulatory agencies.

  • May perform principal duties and responsibilities of all levels of Laboratory Assistants.

  • Responsible for daily equipment maintenance and troubleshooting under general supervision.

  • If applicable by local governing state requirements, performs routine laboratory protocols; pipetting, measuring, and pouring of samples.

  • Follows the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.

  • Documents daily, weekly, and monthly quality control and maintenance procedures as assigned. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

  • Fully understands policies and procedures prior to performing proficiency testing.

  • Performs specimen handling for inter-laboratory tests.

  • Provides mentorship and training of Lab Assistants.

  • Performs routine monitoring of reagents, chemicals, equipment parts, and other necessary supplies for testing.

  • Complies with all laboratory safety protocols, including, but not limited to, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper laboratory techniques, disposal of biohazard, etc.

  • May escalate difficult/complex issues to supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary.

  • Assists with various projects as assigned.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and be able to sit/stand for extended periods in a laboratory environment.

  • Must be able to work with clinical and environmental samples, including, but not limited to blood, urine, etc.

  • Must be able to work with chemicals and/or reagents specific to laboratory testing.

  • Must be able to work in a medium to high noise level.

SUPERVISION:

  • None

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

  • Associates of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required.

  • If applicable by local governing state requirements, MLT License required.

  • National Certification (ASCP or ASCLS) preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :

  • 0 – 1 year related experience with college degree and license plus certification or 3 – 5 years’ experience with no license or certification.

  • Basic knowledge of medical laboratory testing and experience in clinical laboratory required.

  • Good verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently.

  • Prior experience with laboratory systems preferred.

  • PC literacy required.

  • Ability to follow precise directions in a situation requiring speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
