The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides supportive, preventive, protective, public health and intervention services that safeguard the public health and assists our clients in meeting their needs.

District Operations, within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is responsible for supervising and coordinating the overall administrative and clerical operations within Maine DHHS District Offices throughout the State. This position will be based in South Portland.

Job Duties:

As the Business Manager II you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the overall administrative and clerical operations within the southern Maine DHHS District Offices in Sanford, Biddeford and South Portland. Your duties will include:

  • You will supervise and direct the work activities of staff.

  • You will review and approve request for supplies, equipment and personnel.

  • You will lead and participate in various committees addressing safety, building issues and general policy development.

  • You will review, analyze and assess management procedures in order to recommend changes to improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

  • You will review and implement policies and procedures to ensure the facility needs are met.


A Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration or closely related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in administrative management to include budget, finance, personnel, and procurement functions. Directly related experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge of state purchasing, budget and fiscal practices and procedures.

  • A proven ability to supervise staff.

  • A proven ability to analyze, review and assess procedures and make recommendations for improvements for efficient and effective operations.
