First Atlantic Health Care Accounting Specialist in South Portland, Maine

Basic Function:

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for assisting in the preparation and maintenance of financial records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post journal entries

  • Reconcile inter-company transactions and reimbursements

  • Review accounts payable coding and ensure payments are charged appropriately

  • Reconcile cash disbursements, payroll, resident and vendor accounts and other financial accounts as needed

  • Assist with preparation of bank transactions

  • Post payroll in a timely and accurate manner

  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed timely and accurately

  • Maintain fixed asset and depreciation listings and work with facilities to ensure proper descriptions and disposals

  • Assist with researching and resolving account discrepancies

  • Periodically review outstanding checks and maintain due diligence correspondence as needed

  • File annual unclaimed property reports with State

  • Ensure timely filing of provider tax, service provider tax and sales tax returns

  • Proactively manage departmental deadlines

  • Provide additional reporting as requested by Director of Accounting or Senior Management

  • Assist external auditors by gathering necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit

  • Other duties as assigned

  • High level of organization

  • PC proficiency, including typing and data entry skills

  • Comfortable with math and calculations

  • Good listening and communication skills

  • Works well under pressure when needed to assist in meeting deadlines

    Education and Experience Required:

    High school diploma required; prior experience in accounting or related office setting preferred

    Working Conditions:

    Eligible for remote work. In office as required by supervisor and to attend to staff meetings or needs. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
