JOB SUMMARY: Entry level position in the Machine Room that assists in the papermaking activities by working with a 4 person crew on PM1 Machine and supports the PM1 Winder process, ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES SPECIFIC TO POSITION: - Assists third hand by cutting cores, core set up, threading, splicing, inspection, removing rolls from PM1 Winder - Enter specific production data into the computer for all paper rolls produced. Whether the paper is first quality or off spec. - Operate large crane to move spools of paper from the machine to the Winder. Document Crane inspection report daily. - Washing out of tanks and chests during Grade change and Major Wash ups. - Remove wet broke from presses and manage the pond level on both 1st and 2nd presses. GENERAL JOB REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Each week, all hourly associates must complete their time sheet in an online payroll system and on the last shift / day worked, review the time sheet for accuracy and approve their time entered for the week - Environmental responsibilities include completing and applying concepts of Environmental training, personally practicing recycling and reuse principles to reduce waste generation, and taking action immediately to report and respond to chemical spills and other conditions posing risk to the environment. - Participate as a peer trainer to train new 4th hands - Meet safety requirements of the position, including wearing of appropriate PPE , completing all required safety training, completing 15 safety activities per month, reporting all injuries or near misses within 24 hours of occurrence and intervening to correct any observed unsafe behaviors by co-workers or mill visitors. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE REQUIRED: - Related Experience: No Prior Mill experienced required. - Certification/Licensure: Certification test for 4th hand after 4-5 weeks of on the job training. - Onyx Crane License (Training provided) - Annual Eye Exam will be needed to determine associates ability to see small dirts/contamination in the paper during inspections. JOB KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIRED: - Basic math skills - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions. - Ability to read a ruler in inches and metric systems. - Attention to detail. - Ability to enter data efficiently and accurately into a computer system. - Strong teamwork skills including the ability to be adaptable to changing circumstances. - Must be able to take direction from senior crew members and management. WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires working a rotating shift schedule, working 8 to 12 hours per shift, 5 to 7 days per week. Exposure to heat (mainly in summer months) and noise, some exposure to resin fumes and filler dust. Injuries may be caused by nip points, hot machinery, high pressure steam lines, and wet floors. Hazards are also presented by the close proximity between both paper machines. PHYSICAL SKILLS AND EFFORT REQUIRED: - On feet, primarily standing and walking, large percentage of time; crouching, squatting, kneeling, reaching and bending required; periodic lifting of objects greater than 40lbs - Periodic Eye exam to confirm ability to see small particle contamination
