Pelican Products Machinist A in South Deerfield, Massachusetts

Machinist A OVERVIEW: Performs machining operations including: programming and operation of CNC milling machines or the manual set-up and operation of any machine tools and other similar duties to produce components and container support structure. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Programs, sets up, operates CNC machines from any machine drawing; uses program processor, various programming options and procedures. Develops sub-routines to take into consideration geometry, tolerances and other pertinent factors. Determines and selects appropriate tooling; reviews and edits program asnecessary. Manually programs Bridgeport-type machines from blueprints. Determines appropriate set-up fixturing. Makes modifications as necessary to ensure proper operation. Locates parts, tools, sets up and starts operation. Maintains tolerances per part drawings. Performs hand operations as time allows for such as deburring. Instructs lower level machine operators and machinists as required. Maintains established quality and quantity standards. Follows prescribed safety precautions, established company and department policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Detects and reports improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials and questionable conditions to proper supervision. Maintains work area(s) and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Maintains daily production and other records as required. Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job. Performs additional duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS Qualifications include: Minimum of 5 years experience CNC / Bridgeport type machine operation. Ability to measure with calipers, micrometers and height gauges. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: CNC Programming ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Actively supports and complies with Pelican\'s objectives, guidelines and commitment to Quality and Safety, with an emphasis on continual improvement. Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels. Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager. Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers). While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch). Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
