Job DescriptionThe lumber stacker is a physically demanding job that requires swift movements and attention to detail. Employee will be stacking lumber from a moving platform chain to a rack based on side. The employee will slide the lumber from one level to another level. Lumber stackers build bundles of hardwood and softwood that will eventually be turned into pallets.The lumber stacker is responsible for safety, quality control, and accuracy. Correct sizes of lumber have to go into the correct rack. Employee must determine whether a piece of lumber meets exceeds rot, bark and size specs.The lumber stacker works with 2-3 other people. Good teamwork and attendance are critical. Physical DemandsThis position involves heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objectsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, lift and grab; reach with hands and arms; push and pull; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk and hear.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions while working on the railroad bridge.The employee is frequently exposed to moving lumber mechanical parts.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection is required and provided.CompensationThe lumber stacker position starts at $10.50 per hour. Pay is increased to $11 an hour after the first 2 weeks if attendance and performance targets are met. Raises based on attendance and performance are given on a regular basis after the first month as well.Holiday pay after one year.Vacation pay after one year.Company contributed health insurance after 90 days.1st shift is 5am - 1pm.2nd shift is 1pm - 9pm.Shifts are Monday through Friday.Company DescriptionJohncock Forestry Products Inc is a vertically-integrated company that converts a tree at the end of its usable life into a product that will improve human and animal life. JFP has a logging division, sawmill, and mulch manufacturing division. The logging division harvests marketable timber for the sawmill. The sawmill makes lumber for pallet manufacturers, wood chips for building materials, sawdust for animal bedding, and raw material for landscape mulch. The mulch manufacturing division turns raw material into bulk mulch that will improve soil conditions, improve landscaping aesthetics, or improve safety of local playgrounds. JFP is a family owned and operated company located in Northeast lower Michigan, near the heart of Huron National Forest.
