Description:

This position is part-time as needed, seasonal, non-exempt and is covered under the Saint Joseph County Employee Policy Manual.

Responsible for the transportation of renters and vessels between Keller Park, St. Patricks County Park, and the Niles, MI public landing. Prepares canoe van for group reservations, includes fueling vans, unlocking doors, and hooking up the canoe van to canoe trailer. Assists with loading and unloading canoes on trailer. Prepares canoe rental area and associated equipment for rental operations and assists canoe staff with loading required equipment into van when shuttle is needed.

vary based on group reservations.

Shifts:majority weekend days, occasional Weds-Fri evenings

June to September

Essential Functions:

  • Transport and pick-up scheduled groups in 15-passenger van with attached 10-hauler trailer of canoes.
  • Assist canoe groups with launching canoes from St. Patricks and Keller Park launch site. This includes helping groups unload canoes and carrying them to the river.
  • Assist groups at St. Patricks and Niles' dam canoe recovery area when they return. This includes helping groups load canoes back on the trailer.
  • Reinforce contract rules with scheduled groups.
  • Sanitize and return rental equipment to appropriate storage area.
  • Make sure that work areas including canoe vans and trailers are clean.
  • Report any hazardous conditions to supervisor when noticed.
  • Communicate with park ranger or supervisor regarding program, problems, and supply needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED.
