Job Overview:

Registered behavior technicians (RBTs) provide applied-behavior-analytic services for patients diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or other behavioral diagnoses under the direction of a professional behavior analyst (e.g., board certified behavior analyst, licensed psychologist). RBTs assist with patient assessments and program implementation. RBTs assist with organizing and maintaining data-collection and statistical-analysis systems, research activities, and staff training.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High-school degree/GED

  • American Heart Association BLS Provider

  • Completion of RBT Competency Assessment of the BACB prior to or within 1 month of start date

  • Must pass RBT exam within 3 months of start date

Preferred:

  • Experience working with patients or individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or other behavioral diagnoses in an educational, instructional, or therapeutic setting

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • American Heart Association BLS Provider

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Monday Friday

  • Full Time 40 hours/week

Essential Functions:

  • Provide suggestions of possible procedures and methods to a professional BCBA

  • Assist BCBA in implementing intake, assessment, treatment, and dischargeprocedures

  • Prepare initial drafts of session materials and protocols

  • Create assessment and treatment graphs as needed

  • Gather daily treatment plan with case billing provider

  • Report the behavior and environment in observable and measurable termsto a professional behavior analyst and provide goal updates

  • Perform initial analysis of findings and present recommendationsto a professional behavior analyst

  • Assist in the creation of data-collection protocols and systems

  • Assist with the development of skill-acquisition programssuch as increasing acceptance and consumption of healthy food and liquid,developmental feeding skills such as self-feeding or chewing, social andcommunication skills, curriculum-based developmental, social skills

  • Assist with the development of behavior-reduction programssuch as extinction protocols to reduce inappropriate mealtime behavior, non-contingent reinforcement to reduce crying, functionalcommunication training

  • Prepare materials and assist in the training of caregiverssuch as parents, school personnel

  • Use behavioral skills training methods to teach novel therapists,new staff members, and practicum students about case-specific protocols,procedures, and data collection systems

  • Maintaining an open line of communication with caregiverslike daily progress, treatment changes, general updates

  • Anticipating case-related needs inventory of supplies,creating session materials

  • Prepare initial drafts of patient s discharge summary andtreatment recommendations following discharge from the program

  • Prepare your team for any planned absences

Auxiliary Program Support

  • Assist in organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of department location, materials, and equipment

  • Assist clinical faculty and professional behavior analysts with various research activities

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to move, lift, and carry patients and objects

  • Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve independently lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assisting with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds

  • Use of abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue

  • Frequent movement, use of limbs, and good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina

  • Extended periods of standing or sitting

Other Duties:

  • RBTs may work with patients who vomit, or who engage in other forms of challenging behavior, such as aggression, self-injury, elopement, expulsion (spitting out food or liquid during treatment), or property destruction
