ENSTAR Natural Gas Temporary Operations Technician in Soldotna, Alaska

JOB SUMMARY:The primary responsibility of the Operations Technician is to read residential and commercial customers' gas meters consumption for billing purposes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Read gas meters and record consumption for residential and commercial accounts.
  • Inspect and report defective meters or related equipment.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Verify readings for abnormal consumption and records reasons for possible fluctuations.
  • Hang door tags for nonpayment of customer bills.
  • Walk and/or drive ENSTAR vehicle to perform tasks.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle; refuel as needed.
  • Perform duties related to Distribution as assigned.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Work in all types of weather conditions especially in cold and wet environments; may include walking through deep snow.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior gas meter reading experience preferred.
  • Experience in environments requiring customer service focus.
  • Must be able to pass federally required initial and continuous Operator Qualifications training.
  • Must possess an Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a background, past employment, drug, and driving record screening.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively interact with individuals within and outside of ENSTAR.
  • Ability to learn and understand ENSTAR's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as they relate to fieldwork.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Knowledge/familiarity of local road system.
  • Ability to interpret as-builts.
  • Knowledge regarding meter sets, regulators, pressures, and piping.
  • Legible handwriting and ability to accurately complete detailed paperwork.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn ENSTAR's software programs (Customer Care and Billing, Mobile Workforce Management, Itron, etc.).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers and management.
  • Must maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
  • Must adhere to ENSTAR's policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.
