Summary:

Perform a variety of routine and advanced

patient care tasks under the direction of nursing staff to assist medical and

nursing personnel in the examination, treatment and care of patients; performs

a variety of clerical and technical tasks as assigned

Responsibilities:

Participate in patient care interventions and personal care procedures for patients, under the direction of nursing staff such as hygiene, bowel and bladder elimination, and ambulation. Assist with approved dressing and wound care appropriate for CNA II level training. Provide assistance with nutritional activities. Perform a variety of EKG technician tasks as required which include routine, repeat or STAT EKGs.

Perform adult, isolated venipuncture for collection of routine blood specimens and blood cultures. Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes and/or inadequate signal reception according to clinician/provider orders in a timely manner. Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specimens.

Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required. Escort and transport patients that do not require any hemodynamic monitoring. Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients’ needs, and promptly respond.

Maintains a clean work area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as required. Maintain clean tags on all clean equipment in the clean utility room.

Function as patient sitter for risk-identified patients.

Education Requirements:

● High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a Level II Nurse Assistant education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● Registry as a Nurse Assistant II with the Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property.

● Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia Course within 120 days of hire is required with a grade of at least 84%, or current certification as a Monitor Technician, EKG Technician, or other nationally recognized certification that includes Basic Arrhythmia training. Initial orientation to lethal arrhythmias training must be completed within 30 days of hire.

● BLS required.

● Successfully pass the training on proper blood specimen collection-proper identification of specimen, sterile technique, proper labeling and sending to the lab within 30 days of being hired into this position.

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Previous experience performing EKG’s is desirable.
