**[POSITION SUMMARY [Sitka AmeriCorps members serve the community of Sitka using a healing centered engagement and culturally responsive program model. The goal is to form developmental relationships through academic support, mentoring, providing mental health and life skills, and enrichment activities. These relationships build youth resiliency which results in better long-term outcomes. The AmeriCorps members are embedded within the schools in a way that is unique and provides a nurturing role model for at risk youth that affects their lives in a meaningful way. [The key to being a successful AmeriCorps member is communicating with staff to best assist them and ensure that you are supported as an individual. Flexibility and communication as well as good rain gear are all you really need to be happy and helpful. [The Life Skills and Enrichment Specialist position functions within the SEARHC Behavioral Health division to provide direct support services for residents of the Intensive Substance Abuse and Addiction Treatment (ISAAT) housing program. Duties and responsibilities include direct supportive engagement with residents to provide services, support and structure that fosters a pro-recovery environment. This may include supervision of daily living activities and facilitation of therapeutic activities and groups. [This position requires an understanding of working with individuals who are in early recovery, including basic interventions that are effective in the treatment of substance use disorders. This position also requires crisis intervention skills, and effective communication skills for leading educational groups and activities with the residents. AmeriCorps members must be able to engage in moderate physical recreation activities that support recovery.

[As an entry-level to intermediate-level direct service position, the Life Skills and Enrichment Specialist position requires a commitment to ongoing professional development in the areas of substance abuse disorder treatment and recovery.

**[DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES [Working in a team setting, this position requires building positive relationships with clients and staff. These relationships are the basis with which to facilitate enrichment opportunities. [As a valued member of the SEARHC community, you will share in some or all the responsibilities listed below. If you have not done all these things, that is ok, we provide 2-4 weeks of shadowing, experiential learning, and training at the beginning of the year to support you. Plus, you will work with staff every step of the way.

Teach, support, and assist clients in understanding and meeting program rules and expectations.

Establish therapeutic rapport with residents and utilize basic counseling skills for group and individual resident management.

Team-based coordination and facilitation of treatment and recovery support services, including individual and group services.

Lead a wide range of programmatic treatment activities such as therapeutic initiatives and games.
